Discomfort in the AKP over Murat Kurum: 'Someone who lost an election...'

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had given a message of 'change' following the defeat in the March 31 Local Elections.

The first change in the Presidential Cabinet was made last week.

Kemal Memişoğlu was appointed to replace Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca, and Murat Kurum was appointed to replace Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki. 

According to a report in Gazete Duvar, this situation has caused discomfort within the AKP, where change was expected after the election.

DISCOMFORT IN THE AKP OVER MURAT KURUM

The appointment of Murat Kurum, who was the AKP's candidate for Istanbul on March 31, to the ministry after losing to Ekrem İmamoğlu has caused reactions within the AKP.

Some party members expressed their reaction by saying, “Success is rewarded. It is not right to make someone who lost an election a minister.”

CHP IS PLEASED WITH KURUM'S APPOINTMENT

Kurum's reappointment as minister has caused satisfaction within the CHP. A CHP executive, who stated that there is the same purpose and goal in both Kurum's candidacy for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and his return to the Ministry of Environment, primarily regarding construction business, said, “Murat Kurum being there means Ekrem İmamoğlu gains points every day. Thanks to him, Mr. Ekrem will be constantly subjected to comparisons, and there will be reminders. İmamoğlu will not need PR.”
