The Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has denied claims that "AFAD has summoned all its personnel to Istanbul because it expects a major earthquake."
The Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has officially denied the claim rapidly spreading on social media that "AFAD has summoned all its personnel to Istanbul because it expects a major earthquake." The DMM's statement emphasized that these reports contain disinformation and are intended to cause unnecessary panic among the public.
'NO INSTRUCTION FOR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL DEPLOYMENT TO ISTANBUL'
The statement released via the DMM's social media account included the following remarks:
"There is no message conveyed by the AFAD Presidency stating that 'a major earthquake will occur' as claimed in the audio recording, nor is there any instruction for 'emergency personnel deployment to Istanbul' for this reason."
It was noted that such baseless claims create misinformation in the public sphere.
The statement reminded the public not to rely on announcements made by sources other than AFAD and authorized public institutions.
