Double standard from the police: Pepper spray for miners seeking their rights, police protection for Celal Karatüre
Celal Karatüre, who became popular with his rendition of the hymn 'Kabe'de Hacılar Hu Der Allah', arrived at an event in Mersin with police protection. While footage of Karatüre surrounded by riot police went viral, it brought to mind the police's use of pepper spray against striking miners who were seeking their rights.
Celal Karatüre, who reached a wide audience in a short time with the hymn “Kâbe’de Hacılar Hu Der Allah” that he shared on social media, and who has been congratulated by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, attended an event in Mersin.
It was noted that Karatüre arrived at the event with police protection. Karatüre, surrounded by riot police, greeted those who came to the event.
The heavy security measures taken for Karatüre sparked reactions. The double standard of the police forces created controversy.
Doruk Mining workers, who were seeking their rights and marching from Eskişehir to Ankara to receive their unpaid wages, wanted to march from Kurtuluş Park to the Ministry of Energy yesterday. However, they were met with harsh police intervention.
The workers on hunger strike were intervened against with pepper spray.
