Ekrem İmamoğlu mocks Erdoğan

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the İSKİ Bağcılar and Güngören Environmental Project.

When İmamoğlu took the podium to deliver his speech, he responded to the "Full speed ahead with Mayor Ekrem" slogan by saying, "Hopefully, we will say 'full speed ahead' all together. We must say it for our country and our nation."

İmamoğlu stated that the AKP mayors of Güngören and Bağcılar had also been invited to the groundbreaking ceremony but did not attend, adding, "We will continue to invite them from now on."

İmamoğlu continued as follows:

"We are experiencing the value of being one and being together. There is no discrimination in service. There is a valuable aspect to being together in service. We are serving our nation. We leave our political hats behind, run to the side of our nation for service, and become one, we become together.

But unfortunately, we are experiencing a very interesting atmosphere in terms of preventing this in today's climate. I am trying to express that we are against this, both with language and attitude, and persistently.

This nation cannot, must not, and should not tolerate division or polarization with any element. The greatest strength of this nation is being able to be together.

The era of those who seek to disrupt this atmosphere of ours, to carry it to their own political interests, and to win elections by harvesting votes from here, by making people enemies of each other, by alienating them, is over. We will end it. This must come to an end so that our children can find peace.

We will build this building soon, it is very close."

'PRESIDENT İMAMOĞLU' SLOGANS

During İmamoğlu's speech, "President İmamoğlu" slogans were chanted.

İmamoğlu replied, "The presidential seat, just like the mayoral seat, belongs to the nation. The nation is great, not one person."

İmamoğlu continued as follows:

"No matter what obstacles arise, we will not stop. They do all sorts of things to intimidate us. Midnight reports, threats, whether through the judiciary or other concepts... But we are determined to serve this city and this country. Do you know what would make us bow our heads? Failing to keep our promise to our nation is what would make us bow our heads.

No power has been born yet that can make us bow our heads with oppressive concepts, lies, or slander, my friends. It is that clear!"

MOCKS ERDOĞAN

Regarding the slogan "There is no salvation alone, either all together or none of us," İmamoğlu noted the following:

"Let us remind the President that this phrase belongs to the German Bertolt Brecht. Of course, this is a matter related to the concept of reading books versus not reading them."

WHAT DID ERDOĞAN SAY?

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had criticized the slogan "There is no salvation alone, either all together or none of us," which the CHP has been using recently, claiming that this expression belonged to a leftist terrorist organization that robbed the Ziraat Bank in 1971.
