Ekrem İmamoğlu reacts to RTÜK penalties
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being tried while in custody, has reacted to the penalties imposed by RTÜK on Sözcü TV, Halk TV, Tele1, and NOW TV.
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has imposed a barrage of penalties on Sözcü TV, Halk TV, NOW TV, and Tele1, citing their broadcasts regarding IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested and sent to prison, and his colleagues. According to the decision from RTÜK's latest meeting, Sözcü TV was issued a 10-day 24/7 blackout, while the other channels were issued administrative fines.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and CHP Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu reacted to the penalties. İmamoğlu stated, "Democracy cannot exist as long as the press and media are not free."
