Ekrem İmamoğlu to testify in 2 separate investigations

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was subject to an investigation on charges of "threatening" and "targeting individuals involved in counter-terrorism" due to his statements regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek following the arrest of Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat.

İmamoğlu had said the following about Gürlek:

"Look, Chief Prosecutor, I am telling you. We will be of no use to you, your mindset is rotten... We will rip out the mind that controls you from the consciousness of this nation, even to save your own children from these treatments. Do not forget this. We will rip it out so that no one shows up at your children's door, so that no one takes your children from their home at the crack of dawn. We will rip the paths and methods that pass through your mentality out of every environment in this country so that we can ensure peace for your home and your children's future as well. That is our concern."

EXPERT WITNESS INVESTIGATION

In a press conference titled "The Bigger Trouble" held recently, İmamoğlu publicly disclosed the name of an expert witness assigned to investigations into himself and CHP-run municipalities, detailing their past misconduct. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has now launched an investigation into İmamoğlu on the allegation of "attempting to influence those performing judicial duties by targeting an expert witness assigned to certain investigations."

İmamoğlu, who has had investigations launched against him on 2 different charges in the last 11 days, will go to the Çağlayan Courthouse today to give his statement.
