Elderly man dies after becoming trapped in flames while trying to extinguish fire in his garden
An elderly man who was injured when his clothes caught fire while trying to extinguish a blaze in his hazelnut orchard in Ordu has passed away at the hospital in Samsun where he was receiving treatment.
The incident occurred 18 days ago in the Kayıncık neighborhood of the Kabataş district in Ordu.
According to the information obtained, the incident began when Eşref Aksu (92) was clearing weeds at the base of hazelnut trees in his own orchard; a fire broke out from the weeds he had set ablaze.
When the flames spread to the adjacent orchard, Eşref Aksu attempted to extinguish the fire, but his clothes caught fire, leaving him with burn injuries.
The elderly man was taken to Aybastı State Hospital and, following initial intervention, was transferred to the burn center at Samsun Training and Research Hospital.
Eşref Aksu, who was under treatment at the hospital in Samsun, could not be saved despite all medical interventions and passed away today.
