Electric cables exploded like bombs: 10 streets plunged into darkness

The incident occurred at a transformer on 5210th Street in Çayırova Neighborhood.

According to the information obtained, a fire that broke out in the transformer for an unknown reason spread to the electric cables on the surrounding streets. Explosions occurred in the electric cables that were engulfed in flames.

The darkness of the sky was illuminated by flames and explosions. Citizens, who experienced moments of fear, reported the incident to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon the report, fire, police, medical, and Sakarya Electricity Distribution Inc. (SEDAŞ) teams were dispatched to the area.

With the intervention of the fire department, the fire was extinguished before it could spread to surrounding buildings. While 10 streets were plunged into darkness, the teams' work continues.

"OUR NEIGHBORHOOD HAS INFRASTRUCTURE PROBLEMS"

Çayırova Neighborhood headman candidate Ahmet Yılmaz said, “An explosion occurred in the transformer at iftar time. Following the explosion, the power went out. We believe that our neighborhood is old and the transformers are insufficient. Our neighborhood has problems related to infrastructure. The transformers cannot handle the load, and there is no electricity in a part of our neighborhood.”
