Erdoğan calls Özgür Özel to convey get-well wishes following attack

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel was physically attacked while leaving the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) following a ceremony held for Sırrı Süreyya Önder.

The individual identified as S.T., who carried out the attack on Özel, has been taken into custody.

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called CHP leader Özgür Özel, who was the target of the attack, to convey his get-well wishes.

Communications Director Fahrettin Altun made the following statement regarding the matter:

"Our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, called CHP Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel, who was subjected to an ugly attack in Istanbul today, to express his get-well wishes and stated that he is closely following the process to ensure the incident is clarified in all its aspects.

An investigation into the attack has been launched immediately, and the individual who carried out the attack has been taken into custody.

We condemn this attack on Mr. Özel and convey our get-well wishes to him."
