Erdoğan dissatisfied with vote share in Diyarbakır: 'We need to stop and think about this'
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at his party's rally at Diyarbakır Station Square. Criticizing the vote share he received in Diyarbakır during the May 14-28 elections, Erdoğan said, "If 28.5 percent of the vote went to this brother of yours in Diyarbakır, while 71.5 percent went to the CHP candidate, we need to stop and think about this."
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed citizens in Diyarbakır four days before the local elections.
Erdoğan criticized the vote share he received in the second round of the presidential elections.
During the rally, the slogan "Biji Serok Erdoğan" (Long live leader Erdoğan) was also chanted.
Erdoğan's statements are as follows:
HE DID NOT LIKE THE VOTE SHARE
"I asked what the turnout was. What did they say? Today there are 70 thousand people in the square. I am proud to share the same history with Diyarbakır, the city that first opened its doors to Islam in the region.
In last May's elections, we could not reach the vote shares we desired in Diyarbakır, both in the parliamentary and presidential elections, but I believe that the election result did not sit well with you either. This square is saying that. If 28.5 percent of the vote went to this brother of yours in Diyarbakır, while 71.5 percent went to the CHP candidate, we need to stop and think about this."
"WE WILL SIT AND TALK WITH THOSE WHOSE STRINGS ARE NOT HELD BY OTHERS"
Following the common pains we have experienced, we have eliminated this threat. Now is the time to save our country from this burden, not just in terms of security, but in all its dimensions. For this, we will sit and talk with everyone whose strings are not held by others, but our door is closed to those who play at politics. A party whose list of parliamentary candidates, mayoral candidates, and council members is determined by a terrorist organization cannot be a party. Those who will determine these are the base that created the party, its voters.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
In the second round of the 2023 Presidential and Parliamentary General Elections, President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received 242 thousand 74 votes, amounting to 28.34 percent.
Former CHP Chairman and presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu received 611 thousand 981 votes. Kılıçdaroğlu's support was 71.66 percent.
