Erdoğan expected to meet with DEM: AKP to shift gears for new resolution process after the holiday

Turkey has been experiencing turbulent days since the evening of March 18. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained in a dawn operation on the morning of March 19 after his university diploma was revoked.

While İmamoğlu, who was arrested on charges of 'corruption,' was sent to Silivri Prison, citizens across the country protested the decision. 2.2 million people attended the “Freedom for Ekrem İmamoğlu” rally organized by the CHP in Maltepe yesterday.

As CHP Chairman Özgür Özel launched a petition campaign today for Ekrem İmamoğlu and early elections, the strategy the government will follow in the coming period has become clear.

According to a report by the pro-government Türkiye newspaper; the AKP will shift gears after the holiday for the new resolution process it calls a 'Terror-Free Turkey.'

ERDOĞAN EXPECTED TO MEET WITH DEM

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to meet with the DEM Party's Imralı delegation in the second week of April.

A new visit to Imralı is also on the agenda for after the holiday.

In the assessments made, the view was expressed that “If Öcalan says ‘lay down your arms,’ they will. Therefore, there is no point in making things difficult. The only agenda is for the terrorist organization to lay down its arms and dissolve itself. Other than that, there is absolutely nothing that can be considered a condition or a preliminary step. The organization also knows that nothing will come of this. Because it was conveyed to both the DEM members and Imralı that there would never be any negotiations. For this reason, the congress can be convened at any moment.”

BAHÇELİ'S MALAZGIRT CALL

The possibility of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's proposal for the PKK terrorist organization's dissolution congress to be held in Malazgirt appears weak. In political circles, it is stated that the options of Sulaymaniyah and Erbil are still at the forefront for the congress. AKP sources expressed the view that “At this point, there should be no more delays. Because both the state and political institutions know that every delay means poisoning the process. At the same time, the DEM Party also wants things to be rushed. The ball is now in Kandil's court.”

ERDOĞAN INCLUDED IT IN HIS HOLIDAY MESSAGE

On the other hand, Erdoğan also gave messages regarding the new resolution process in his holiday message:

“We are continuing the efforts we have initiated in line with our 'Terror-Free Turkey' goal, in accordance with our roadmap. Our state has done its part by ensuring that the call is made. Now it is the organization's turn to comply with the call without any ifs or buts. We do not have unlimited time or patience for this. We expect the organization to dissolve itself and lay down its arms completely without further stalling. Our global, regional, and internal dynamics offer us a ground more suitable than ever for such a process to be successfully concluded. When we achieve this together, we will hopefully have completely rid our country of a 40-year-old bloody and difficult scourge.”
