Chief Advisor to Erdoğan, Mehmet Uçum, makes 'Century of Turkey' statement: 'It is the century of Turks and Kurds...'

Mehmet Uçum, Chief Advisor to the President and Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Legal Policies Board, made evaluations in an article titled "Turks and Kurds" on his social media account.

Stating, "Today, no one says 'The ethnic structure of the Turkish Nation is entirely Turkish.' Even if they did, it would be contrary to reality," Uçum continued, "The State of the Republic of Turkey is the National State of the Kurds, just as it is of all elements of the people of Turkey. The Century of Turkey is the century of Turks and Kurds. It is both the right and the obligation of the Kurds to embrace the State of the Republic of Turkey."

The People of Turkey are founding and inclusive. Every segment, including Turks, Kurds, Arabs, Zazas, Lazs, Circassians, Bosniaks, and Georgians, is an essential element of the people of Turkey. The Turkish Nation consists of the people of Turkey. Today, no one says “The ethnic structure of the Turkish Nation is entirely Turkish.” Even if they did, it would be contrary to reality.

The fact that Kurds are an essential founding element and an inseparable part of the Turkish Nation can never be evaluated as a rejection or denial of their ethnic identity. One of the important proofs of this is the freedom Kurdish possesses in politics, social and cultural life, and education. Recent developments, such as the Kurdish greeting in the TBMM that effectively neutralized the phrase 'unknown language,' the Communications Director's Kurdish message, and the Directorate's publication of Kurdish books, are concrete steps taken in line with the State Initiative regarding Kurdish.

The fact that ethnic-based problems were experienced in a period does not require defending the thesis of two separate nations, which is a product of political engineering, for a solution. Leaning towards the two-nation thesis opens space for imperialist strategies. Imperialist powers, which produce artificial ethnic problems and exploit past issues, built the 'external Kurdish issue' they developed for the division of Turkey on the project that Turks and Kurds are two separate nations. The view of “there should be a single national/unitary state with two nations,” put forward in the context of this project, is a trap and is contrary to reality. It is self-contradictory. It is not possible to establish and maintain such a state. The threat aimed at dividing the Turkish Nation into Turks and Kurds aims to fragment the people of Turkey and destroy the nation.

FEDERATIVE OPTIONS ARE CLOSED

In other words, the threat to our Nation does not target only Turks in an ethnic sense. This threat is directed at the dissolution of the Nation and Turkey with all its elements, including Turks, Kurds, Arabs, Zazas, Lazs, Circassians, Bosniaks, and Georgians. No element of the people of Turkey refrains from protecting the Turkish Nation and its Homeland against the threat of fragmentation. On the other hand, Turkey is also closed to regional administration or federative options due to objective reality, which is the resultant of main features such as geographical structure, population distribution, social interconnectedness, unity of faith, and historical and cultural partnerships.

KURDS ARE AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF THE NATION

The truth is this: Kurds are an essential element of the Nation that emerged with the war of independence and the founding. That is, Kurds are an inseparable part of the Turkish Nation and, in this capacity, are the founders and permanent owners of the Republic of Turkey. The future is secured by the reality of a single nation and a single unitary state, which is the only option suitable for this objective situation. MAIN APPROACHES OF THE STATE INITIATIVE The People of Turkey are the guarantee of our diversity, and the Turkish Nation is the guarantee of our unity.

The Turkish Nation is not based on 'ethnic nationalism'; it is based on Turkish citizenship, defined as a legal bond, that is, 'civic nationalism.' Turkish citizenship is not ethnic; it is a legal bond acquired with the Republic, whose content is Republican citizenship and which is established with the State. Subsequent citizenships are also within the same scope, as they are based on the principle of accepting the fundamental elements of the National State and national consciousness.

THE CENTURY OF TURKS AND KURDS

The State of the Republic of Turkey is the National State of the Kurds, just as it is of all elements of the people of Turkey. The Century of Turkey is the century of Turks and Kurds. It is both the right and the obligation of the Kurds to embrace the State of the Republic of Turkey.

KURDS MUST INTEGRATE MORE WITH THEIR STATE

What is expected is for Kurds to integrate more with their State. A Single State and a Single Nation is the only reality of Turkey. After the acceptance and adoption of this reality, and only under this condition, the Nation gains the power to make decisions about its future together with all its inseparable elements. The main issue of our day is for the people of Turkey to embrace, develop, and strengthen the Turkish Nation and the Unitary Republic of Turkey with all its elements and in unity. This internal unity that Turkey will provide and the internal and external front it will strengthen can, as President Erdoğan said, initiate the integration of Turks, Arabs, and Kurds in this century in the region and make Turkey the determining power of the region in every sense. What is foreseen is that this historical opportunity will be realized.
