Erdoğan's protection costs have doubled: 2.8 million TL spent per day!

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's protection budget has doubled in one year.

693 MILLION 420 THOUSAND TL SPENT IN THE FIRST EIGHT MONTHS

According to information in the General Directorate of Security's financial statements, the Presidential Protection Department, to which presidential bodyguards are attached, spent 693 million 420 thousand 840 TL in the first eight months of the year.

According to the report in Cumhuriyet; based on this data, President Erdoğan's daily protection cost has reached 2.8 million TL. This amount is equivalent to the minimum wage of 245 people. By August of last year, 337 million 722 thousand 804 TL had been spent on Erdoğan's protection. Thus, the expenditure for Erdoğan's protection costs has doubled compared to last year. 

NUMBER OF BODYGUARDS UNKNOWN

There is no official statement regarding the number of bodyguards for President Erdoğan. In 2021, former CHP Mersin Deputy Alpay Antmen submitted a parliamentary question to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) regarding the issue, in which he asked for the number of bodyguards allocated to former presidents and the number of protection personnel and vehicles allocated to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Of the questions Antmen asked on the subject, only the question "How many protection personnel does Erdoğan have?" was answered, and the statement made on the subject included the following: "Matters falling within the scope of the General Directorate of Protection Services are carried out with sufficient personnel and equipment in a way that does not create any security vulnerability."  

EXPENDITURES ARE INCREASING EXPONENTIALLY

The expenditures made by the Presidential Protection Department in the first 8 months of the year reached approximately 693 million 420 thousand 840 TL. The department's expenditures for 2023 are as follows:

• January: 99 million 991 thousand TL 
• February: 168 million 761 thousand TL 
• March: 245 million 98 thousand TL 
• April: 318 million 434 thousand TL 
• May: 391 million 85 thousand TL 
• June: 472 million 143 thousand TL
• July: 583 million 491 thousand TL
