Eurasia Tunnel flooded after accident! Governor's Office issues 'seawater' statement

Vehicle passage in the Eurasia Tunnel was halted for a time due to a traffic accident that occurred in the morning hours. According to information obtained, a car traveling inside the tunnel crashed into a fire panel belonging to the fire department at around 08:00.

With the impact of the crash, the valve on the panel was damaged, and water from the fire suppression system began to flow into the tunnel. Following the incident, the tunnel was closed to vehicle traffic as a precaution.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

Following the incident, the statement made by the Istanbul Governor's Office included the following remarks:

"On Monday, 08.06.2026, at approximately 08:00, a traffic accident occurred in the Eurasia Tunnel when a private car crashed into a fire panel belonging to the fire department. Due to the burst valve, water from the suppression system flowed into the tunnel. Following the incident, the Eurasia Tunnel was closed to vehicle passage. The water flowing into the tunnel has no connection to seawater, and efforts to resolve the issue are ongoing. Our citizens who will use the Eurasia Tunnel are being directed to alternative routes."

DIRECTION TO ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

While teams carried out work in the area to fix the malfunction, drivers were directed to alternative routes. It was also specifically emphasized by the Governor's Office that the water filling the tunnel did not originate from seawater.

TUNNEL REOPENED TO SERVICE

After the completion of the work, the Istanbul Governor's Office made a second statement announcing that the tunnel had been reopened to traffic.

In the statement, it was said, "The Eurasia Tunnel has been reopened to vehicle traffic as of 09:00."
