Events at the Ankaragücü - Rizespor match are being taken to court

The repercussions continue following the attack on referee Halil Umut Meler by Ankaragücü President Faruk Koca, who entered the pitch after the match between MKE Ankaragücü and Çaykur Rizespor in the 15th week of the Trendyol Süper Lig.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced on his social media account that a judicial investigation has been launched against those responsible.

Tunç made the following statement on his X account:

"Following the final whistle of the Ankaragücü-Rizespor match, regarding the incident where Ankaragücü President Faruk Koca punched the referee and subsequently fans who entered the pitch kicked and assaulted the referee while he was lying injured on the ground, a #judicialinvestigation has been initiated by our Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against all suspects and the fans who entered the pitch after the match, for violations of Law No. 6222 and for the crime of injuring a public official due to the public duty they perform, in accordance with Article 17/1 of Law No. 6222 and Articles 86/2-3 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). Instructions have been given to identify all suspects and to detain these individuals. K.Ç. and Ş.Y.Ş., whose actions were identified in the events, have been detained, and instructions have also been given for the detention of Club President Faruk Koca, who is currently in the hospital. The investigation is continuing in all its aspects, along with the identification of other suspects. No one should have any doubt that our judiciary will decide on the necessary sanctions against those who cause such ugliness that we do not want to see on our pitches."
