Everyone is talking about this appointment: 'My uncle is my life' post becomes a trending topic on social media
As part of the appointment decisions published in the Official Gazette, 31-year-old Zikrullah Erdoğan, the District Governor of Çınar in Diyarbakır, has been appointed as the General Manager of Procurement Services at the Ministry of National Defense. While the appointment to a position equivalent to a Major General has sparked debate on social media, a post Erdoğan made years ago saying 'My uncle is my life' has resurfaced.
With the Official Gazette decisions signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, notable changes in personnel were made across various public institutions. Within the scope of these decisions, Hızır Aslıyüksek was appointed as the President of the Council of Forensic Medicine, while one of the most discussed changes took place at the Ministry of National Defense.
Mehmet Avcı was removed from his position as the General Manager of Procurement Services at the Ministry of National Defense, and 31-year-old Zikrullah Erdoğan, who was serving as the District Governor of the Çınar district in Diyarbakır, was appointed in his place.
TRENDING ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Following the appointment decision, numerous posts were made on social media. In particular, the military bureaucracy equivalent of the position and the rank grade became a subject of debate.
Retired Colonel Orkun Özeller reacted to the appointment in a post on the social media platform X. In his post, referencing Zikrullah Erdoğan's birth year and his own professional life, Özeller stated:
“In 1993, when we graduated from the Military Academy and began the fight against terrorism, a child was born in the Güneysu district of Rize. His name is Zikrullah Erdoğan. Zikrullah begins his education, and we continue the fight against terrorism. In the year he graduated from university, 2016, we were experiencing the bloodiest and most treacherous fight against terrorists in the trenches. 10 years have passed, and today Zikrullah Erdoğan has been appointed as the Ministry of National Defense Procurement Services General Manager by Presidential Decree. This means he has been appointed to a position equivalent to a Major General. I believe he will provide great services to the Turkish Armed Forces with his accumulated experience. This is the Century of Turkey.”
NOTABLE POST FROM A RETIRED MAJOR GENERAL
Another assessment regarding the appointment came from Retired Major General Rafet Kılıç. In a post on his social media account, Kılıç drew attention to the process an officer must go through to reach the rank of Major General.
Kılıç stated the following in his post:
“A 31-year-old district governor becomes a General Manager at the Ministry of National Defense and also receives the rank equivalent of a Major General. An officer who is a graduate of the Military Academy is only a first lieutenant or captain at that age... For an officer to become a Major General, they must serve as a platoon, company, battalion, regiment, and brigade commander, take part in operational zones, and work hard at every level of the TSK for approximately 30 years.”
The post in question was also reshared by former AKP Member of Parliament Reha Çamuroğlu.
“MY UNCLE IS MY LIFE” POST RESURFACES
Following the appointment decision, a social media post made by Zikrullah Erdoğan in past years also returned to the agenda.
In the post, which is stated to have been made in 2013 when he was a university student, it was seen that Erdoğan used the phrase “My uncle is my life.” The post in question began circulating again on social media platforms in a short time.
