Execution process begins: Prison sentence for Zehra Kınık upheld

In the case concluded last year by the Istanbul Anatolian 8th High Criminal Court, Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir had been sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison and a 2-year suspension of her driver's license following an incident in which 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki lost his life and three others were injured. However, after some victims withdrew their complaints, the decision was taken to the appellate court.

During the appellate process, on December 18, 2025, the court reviewed the decision and sentenced Kınık Demir to 2 years and 6 months in prison, along with a 1-year suspension of her driver's license. At the same time, the travel ban prohibiting her from leaving the country was maintained.

Upon the application of the lawyers for the parties, the 19th Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice reviewed the file. During this process, it was noted that Hasret Doğan, the mother of the deceased Batın Barlasçeki, withdrew her complaint, stating that her damages had been compensated.

The 1st Criminal Chamber rejected the appeals and upheld the sentence handed down by the local court. Thus, Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir's 2-year and 6-month prison sentence and the 1-year suspension of her driver's license have become final.

Following the finalization of the decision, the court of first instance sent a written notification to the prosecutor's office to initiate the execution process. The Execution Prosecutor's Office is expected to send a formal notice for Kınık Demir to surrender to prison within the specified time. If she does not surrender, the relevant legal procedures will be applied.
