Exorbitant price hikes for phone tariffs
The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has increased the maximum fees to be applied in mobile communication. With the new regulation, significant increases in call, SMS, and technical service fees have come into effect.
A new regulation that closely concerns mobile communication users has been put into effect. The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has redetermined the maximum fees that operators can charge subscribers. The regulation, which is valid as of April 2, 2026, covers both call and message fees as well as various service charges.
CALL AND SMS FEES INCREASED
With the new tariff, there has been an increase in the basic items of mobile communication. The updated fees were announced as follows:
The per-minute rate for domestic calls has been increased from 4.11 TL to 4.75 TL.
The per-minute rate for international calls has been raised from 48.68 TL to 56.37 TL.
As for short message (SMS) fees, the domestic message fee has been set at 3.39 TL, and the international message fee at 9.88 TL.
TECHNICAL SERVICE FEES HAVE ALSO RISEN
Within the scope of the regulation, not only call and messaging fees but also the costs of technical services offered by operators have been updated. The new fees are listed as follows:
Activation/deactivation fee: 212.70 TL
Number change: 208.51 TL
SIM card change (out of warranty): 208.51 TL
Line transfer fee: 91.38 TL
30.5 PERCENT INCREASE IN THE LAST YEAR
It was stated that with the regulation, the total increase rate in mobile communication ceiling prices has reached 30.5 percent within the last year.
IMPLEMENTATION SIMULTANEOUS WITH THE 5G PROCESS
It was noted that the updated maximum prices came into effect simultaneously with the transition process to 5G. These determined fees represent the highest limits that operators can demand from subscribers.
