Fake MIT agents defraud psychologist of 10 million liras

Istanbul Police Department teams stopped three individuals, aged 21 and 18, whose behavior they found suspicious during an inspection in the Esentepe neighborhood of Sultangazi on April 2, 2026. A search of their persons revealed 155 grams of gold and 19,800 US dollars.

Following a receipt found among the money carried by these individuals, the police reached the victim, a psychologist identified as M.A. During the interview, it was determined that M.A. had been intimidated for some time by individuals posing as National Intelligence Organization (MIT) officers, who threatened her by saying, "There is a terrorism investigation against you," leading her to hand over foreign currency and gold worth 10 million liras in installments over approximately one month.

It was stated that the final meeting between the suspects and the victim took place at Maçka Park in Şişli and was captured on security cameras. Furthermore, it was determined that the gold and dollars seized had been given to the suspects by M.A. on the same day.

The three detained individuals were referred to the courthouse on charges of "qualified fraud." The suspects were brought before the court, arrested, and sent to prison. The gold and money obtained in the incident were confiscated by the police.
