Fatih Altaylı evaluates Israel's cyberattack: 'Let's be clear, they put on a show'

Journalist Fatih Altaylı commented on the simultaneous explosion of electronic pagers used by Hezbollah by Israel, stating, "Let's be clear, Israel put on a show."

In his column today, Altaylı wrote regarding Israel's "pager" operation against Hezbollah: "Remotely seizing the devices that members of an organization you see as a threat—a group you label as a terrorist organization—use, relying on the obsolescence of the technology they employ to avoid being caught, and using them as weapons to kill or injure the members of that organization is no small feat."

Stating that "this is a message to the world," Altaylı used the following expressions:

"From this moment on, everyone knows that the mobile phone in your hand, the pager on your belt, probably the laptop in front of you, the light bulb above your head, the refrigerator in your kitchen, perhaps even the kettle you are using to make your tea, and even the car you drive (it doesn't have to be electric) are all weapons that can be used against you.

We may be angry at Israel, we may condemn them, we may accuse them of irresponsibility, we may charge them with failing to protect civilians.

But tell me honestly, if Turkish intelligence agencies had 'neutralized' PKK or YPG terrorists by using the phones in their hands or the pagers on their belts, if news had come from Qandil that the PKK Central Committee had been eliminated by detonating their mobile phones, wouldn't you have been pleased!"
