Fatih Altaylı: 'If there is a party congress in the CHP, İmamoğlu will emerge as the chairman'

Internal party debates within the CHP, which has been reiterating calls for early elections, have spilled over into the public eye. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has closed the door on calls for a party congress within the organization.

"A PARTY CONGRESS IS A RIGHT IN THE CHP"

CHP Istanbul MP Oğuz Kaan Salıcı stated, "A party congress in the CHP is not a favor, it is a right," while also criticizing CHP leader Özel over his normalization policy.

Salıcı's move sparked debates within the party. 81 provincial heads of the CHP issued a statement of support for Özgür Özel.

İMAMOĞLU: HE IS NOT MY COMPANION

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said, "Those who want a party congress are not my companions, period."

Journalist Fatih Altaylı made assessments regarding the agenda on his own YouTube channel.

In response to the question, "Is the CHP's agenda early elections or a party congress?" Altaylı replied, "I do not think a party congress is on the CHP's agenda. Because the party's affairs are going well, and its vote share is still higher than the AKP's."

Stating that figures close to former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu are inciting the party, Altaylı emphasized that some of these individuals are AKP agents.

Altaylı assessed, "If there is to be a party congress in the CHP from now on, Kılıçdaroğlu will not emerge from it as chairman; Ekrem İmamoğlu will. They shouldn't be dreaming."

"Figures close to Kılıçdaroğlu are trying to create noise within the party. I do not think a party congress is on the CHP's agenda. Because the party's affairs are going well.

Its vote share is still higher than the AKP's.

Özgür Özel is implementing a policy that, while occasionally faltering and being criticized, is still a policy.

Who are you going to put at the head of the CHP that will implement a policy that isn't criticized? The CHP inherently has this culture of criticism and a culture of multi-voicedness within the party. This is not a bad thing. If you don't criticize, it's wrong.

'Whatever Özgür Özel says is correct...' The CHP is not that kind of party. It never was. Those who strive for this to happen also want the CHP to deviate from its essence.

The pro-Kılıçdaroğlu team is also inciting the party on its own. I have been saying since 2022 that some of them are AKP agents.

Let me say this: if there is to be a party congress in the CHP from now on, Kılıçdaroğlu will not emerge from it as chairman; Ekrem İmamoğlu will. They shouldn't be dreaming.

If some are planning to topple Özgür Özel, they should know that Ekrem İmamoğlu will emerge from it. And that is the right thing anyway.

If there is a desire for a change in chairmanship within the CHP today, the new chairman would be İmamoğlu."
