Fatih Altaylı reacts to those celebrating Ümit Özdağ's release, warns about İmamoğlu! 'Sorry, but...'

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ was released during the second hearing of the case in which he was being held in custody on charges of "publicly inciting hatred and hostility."

Özdağ, who regained his freedom after 148 days, was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months in prison.

Journalist Fatih Altaylı reacted to the atmosphere of joy that emerged in the public eye regarding the release of Zafer Party leader Özdağ.

WARNING FROM ALTAYLI REGARDING EKREM İMAMOĞLU

Evaluating the decision in question as "a release that results in a conviction, not justice," Altaylı argued that a similar scenario is being planned for CHP's detained presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The relevant part of Altaylı's column is as follows:

"Ümit Özdağ was released, but not by being acquitted; rather, he was convicted in an unjust and unlawful manner.

He received a 2-year, 4-month prison sentence.

However, he was released because the 'actual time to be served' for the crime he was convicted of—that is, the time he must remain in prison after the deductions made according to the Execution Law—is around 45 days.

Because he had already been inside longer than the time he was required to serve for the sentence he received, and we had been saying from the beginning, 'Brother, even if you convict him, he won't serve this much time.'

Everyone is rejoicing, but do you think this is justice, do you think this is right!

What is there to rejoice about here!

When I look at this decision, I feel disgrace for the judiciary, shame for justice, and fear for society.

Sorry, but I cannot rejoice at this decision.

I have no doubt that this decision will be overturned by a higher court, or at the very least, cancelled by the Constitutional Court.

After Ümit Özdağ, all eyes are now turned to İmamoğlu.

The question is being asked: when will the İBB Mayor's detention end?

Actually, just like Özdağ, there is no situation that requires İmamoğlu to be tried in custody regarding the alleged crimes, but there is also no indictment yet regarding the accusations that led to İmamoğlu's arrest.

The main reason why an indictment cannot be prepared is that, although they are trying to create evidence with confessors-turned-slanderers in a process that began without evidence, they cannot even directly link these confessions or slanders to İmamoğlu...

That is the reason for the delay.

If the İmamoğlu trial can begin, İmamoğlu will also be released shortly, just like Özdağ."
