Fatih Altaylı's testimony before the judge revealed
The testimony of journalist Fatih Altaylı, who was arrested and sent to Silivri Prison on charges of threatening the President, has been obtained.
Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who was targeted by the Presidential Palace, was detained on allegations of threatening the President.
Altaylı, who was detained as part of an investigation launched following a post by Oktay Saral, chief advisor to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stating, "Altaylı, the water is starting to heat up for you," was arrested by the duty Magistrate Judge.
Fatih Altaylı's testimony before the judge, after being sent to Silivri Prison, has been revealed.
In his testimony, Altaylı stated, "In the video in question, I expressed, with my intellectual identity interested in history, that the Turkish people have always been able to adopt a critical stance against those who govern them, and that even during the era of the sultans, the sultans were criticized.
The same or similar things I said have been stated many times in the past by scientists who are experts on our recent history, such as Murat Bardakçı and Erhan Afyoncu.
There is absolutely no statement of mine here that could be construed as a threat or a perception of a threat against the President. There is not even any implication. I see that the event has been distorted by changing the integrity of the meaning, and that my statements, which were intended solely to provide historical information, have been deliberately reflected as if I were threatening the President."
"TO CREATE THE PERCEPTION THAT I AM THREATENING THE PRESIDENT..."
In the continuation of his testimony, Altaylı said the following:
"When the videos contained in the USB I submitted to the prosecutor's office are watched, the original video, which is approximately 3 minutes long, is the video where I make explanations and provide historical information.
The other short video, which is approximately 30 seconds long, is a video that has been edited and constructed to create the perception that I am threatening the President, and presented to the public.
When the original video is watched, it will be clearly seen that I did not make a threatening speech in the eyes of the public by referring to the President in any way, and that the speech was entirely historical. I have not even undergone any judicial investigation or prosecution before with these accusations.
I definitely have no intention of threatening here; I used my right to criticize President Erdoğan, whom I know personally, and threatening is something I have never done. It is clearly stated that a physical act is required for a crime to occur. For this reason, the material elements of the crime have not been formed solely due to my words."
