Fatih Portakal gives a date for Erdoğan's visit to Damascus! 'In all likelihood...'
Sözcü TV main news anchor Fatih Portakal has provided a date for the visit of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the Syrian capital, Damascus.
Following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad administration by jihadist groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Syria, MIT Chief İbrahim Kalın and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan traveled to Damascus to hold talks.
MIT Chief Kalın, who performed prayers at the Umayyad Mosque, later toured the capital, Damascus, with HTS leader Jolani. Foreign Minister Fidan, meanwhile, held a joint press conference with Jolani.
Following the visits by Kalın and Fidan, the date on which AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will travel to Damascus has become a subject of curiosity.
While there is speculation in political circles that Erdoğan will go to Damascus to perform Friday prayers at the Umayyad Mosque and subsequently meet with Syria's new administration, journalist Fatih Portakal pointed to Friday for Erdoğan's visit to Damascus.
"ERDOĞAN WILL VISIT DAMASCUS ON FRIDAY"
"Pay attention to Friday. In all likelihood, Erdoğan will not be in Turkey on Friday," said Portakal, adding, "It is being discussed that President Erdoğan will likely pay a visit to Damascus on Friday. It is stated that he will perform Friday prayers at the Umayyad Mosque and meet with Syria's new administration during this visit. Barring any setbacks, and once all security measures are taken, Erdoğan will perform the prayer he spoke of at the Umayyad Mosque."
SULEYMAN SHAH TOMB CLAIM
Regarding the Tomb of Suleyman Shah, Portakal said, "Perhaps the relocation of Suleyman Shah may truly be on the agenda. The flag of the Republic of Turkey may be planted there as well."
