Femicides show no signs of stopping! 8 women murdered in 1 day

Every year, hundreds of women fall victim to murder.

In the last 24 hours, 7 women were murdered while 1 woman lost her battle for life. 

In the last 24 hours;

Sevilay Karlı, living in Pendik, Istanbul, was stabbed to death by Ümit Karlı, whom she had divorced 5 months ago. Ümit Karlı was taken into custody.

In the Akyazı district of Sakarya, Ali Rıza Aslan shot and killed Hatun Ekrem Aslan, who was in the process of divorcing him.

In Çekmeköy, Istanbul, a woman named Emine Ülkü Araz was killed by the man she was married to.

In İzmir, Özlem Çankaya was killed by the man she was living apart from.

In Bursa, Murat Demir shot and killed Tuba Ateşci, a mother of 2 whom he had divorced last year, with a handgun.

In Samsat, Adıyaman, Kasım A. shot and killed his wife Tuğba A., his brother-in-law Abidin A., and 9-year-old Mustafa A. with a handgun.

In Denizli, an Afghan woman named Nasım Gol Karımı was killed in her home. The man she was married to, Mohammed Esmail Habibi, was caught with the murder weapon.

In Erzurum, Elif Saydam, who was shot by Şafak Saydam, a prison escapee, lost her battle for life.

According to Anıt Sayaç data; while 403 women were taken from life in 2023, 67 femicides have been committed in 2024.
