Fire breaks out in 33-story building in Esenyurt, Istanbul: People trapped

Fire crews intervened in a fire that broke out in a 33-story building in Esenyurt.

The fire started for an as-yet-undetermined reason in the electrical panel at the entrance of a 33-story building in a residential complex on Nazım Hikmet Boulevard, 2011 Street.

Upon notification, police, medical, and fire crews were dispatched to the scene.

As smoke from the fire engulfed the building, people on the upper floors headed to the windows.

Fire crews responding to the blaze rescued 5 people, including one child, from the upper floors using ladders. The 5 people affected by smoke inhalation were taken to the hospital after receiving initial treatment from medical teams.

Crews are continuing their efforts to evacuate those trapped in the building.

Due to the fire crews' operations, Nazım Hikmet Boulevard has been closed to traffic in both directions.

FIRE EXTINGUISHED

The fire was extinguished as a result of the crews' efforts, and the evacuation of those trapped in the building is being carried out using ladder baskets. People affected by smoke are being lowered in the baskets and transferred to the hospital after receiving intervention from medical teams.

While more than 10 people have been rescued by fire crews so far, it was learned that residents on the lower floors exited the building on their own.

Due to the fire crews' operations, Nazım Hikmet Boulevard has been closed to traffic in both directions.
