First comment from new Health Minister Memişoğlu: 'May God not let us fail our President'

The outgoing Fahrettin Koca has handed over his duties to the new Minister of Health, Kemal Memişoğlu.

Making statements at the handover ceremony, Koca spoke about his tenure as minister.

"My term was a period of painful and shaking events," Koca said, adding, "Today, I will not make my speech as the Minister of Health, but as Dr. Fahrettin Koca, but this is not a farewell speech."

Stating that he "tried to fulfill the requirements of brave decisions made in a timely manner" throughout his tenure, Koca argued that the problem of violence in healthcare has also significantly decreased.

'WE FACED TOUGH TESTS'

Koca summarized his remarks as follows:

"I would like to thank our esteemed President for giving me this opportunity. I adopted a service approach that would embrace all our citizens, regardless of their stance or thoughts. As a matter of principle, we tried to fulfill the requirements of brave decisions made in a timely manner. Our efforts regarding city hospitals are among these. Until recently, our Health Ministers were people who did their jobs almost like a physician, without drawing attention. My term was a period of painful and shaking events. The February 6 earthquakes were a major trauma. We faced tough tests in these 3 events. Mr. Minister, I took over a trust, and now I am handing it over to you."

"MAY GOD NOT LET US FAIL OUR PRESIDENT"

Kemal Memişoğlu, who took over the office, began his remarks by thanking President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Noting that one of Turkey's greatest goals is to produce health knowledge and to be among the world's leading countries in this regard, Memişoğlu said, "May God not let us fail our state, our nation, and our President."

Memişoğlu stated, "I would like to express my gratitude to our esteemed President. Turkey has achieved revolutionary successes in healthcare. We concluded this with the transformation led by AK Party governments for 20 years and our esteemed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, including the best possible management of a pandemic that shook the world, such as Covid. Today, Turkey is among the world's leading countries in health tourism. One of Turkey's greatest goals now is to produce health knowledge and to be among the world's leading countries in this field."
