First meeting at the HSK chaired by Akın Gürlek

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek began his duties on February 11 after taking the oath at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

Following his inauguration, Gürlek held his first meeting with the members of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) in the morning in his capacity as the President of the Council.

Minister Gürlek was welcomed at the HSK building by Deputy President Fuzuli Aydoğdu, First Chamber President Turan Kuloğlu, and other council members.

“IMPORTANT REFORMS HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED IN THE JUDICIARY OVER 23 YEARS”

Speaking at the meeting, Gürlek said, “Under the leadership of our President, important reforms have been implemented over the past 23 years to strengthen our judiciary. Our legislative infrastructure has been improved. Our human resources have been strengthened in terms of quality and quantity. Our physical and technological capabilities have been significantly increased. All these steps have been taken to ensure that justice services are provided more quickly and are more accessible.”

“WE WILL CONTRIBUTE TO ENSURING JUDICIAL PROCESSES ARE CONCLUDED IN A SHORTER TIME”

Stating that the HSK is an important institution in terms of judicial independence and impartiality, Gürlek continued his speech as follows:

"The Council of Judges and Prosecutors is one of the important institutions that serves as the guarantor of judicial independence and impartiality. With this awareness, we will resolutely continue a transparent and predictable management approach based on merit, competence, and professional qualification.

We will continue our will for reform with the same determination in the new term. We will establish a justice system that is based on the rule of law, does not delay, is predictable, and builds trust.

On this occasion, I hope that the first council meeting of the new term will be auspicious. Since I come from a background as a judge and prosecutor, I am well aware of all the shortcomings of our colleagues and our organization.

We will hopefully take important steps here with our Council of Judges and Prosecutors, and we will specifically contribute to ensuring that delayed judicial processes are concluded in a shorter time."

THE MEETING WAS HELD CLOSED TO THE PRESS

The HSK meeting was held closed to the press under the chairmanship of Minister of Justice and HSK President Gürlek.

Sharing a post on his social media account after the meeting, Gürlek stated, "We chaired our first HSK meeting in my capacity as the Minister of Justice and President of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors. We will carry out this important duty by observing the responsibility of our judiciary and the expectations of our nation for justice. We will resolutely continue an approach that is based on merit, competence, and professional qualification; and that is transparent, predictable, and strengthens the sense of justice. I am deeply honored to contribute to the work of our Council, which is one of the most important institutions of our judiciary. I wish for our first meeting to be auspicious for our judicial community and our country."
