First response regarding the CHP mayor to whom Erdoğan made an offer: Statement from the AKP

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made important statements following the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting.

Key highlights from Çelik's statements are as follows:

-We had a painful loss the other day. We lost our brother Ahmet İyimaya. He was a companion to our President during very difficult times. It is truly a very great loss.

-We also lost Ferdi Tayfur. He was a very qualified artist who emerged from our own streets and walked the path with our people. We wish him God's mercy.

-We are following what the Syrian people are doing for freedom. They are taking a stance in Syria so that the pains of the past are not experienced again. We will not allow terrorism in Syria.

-Correct concepts should be used regarding the approach. Mr. Bahçeli has a strong initiative to remove terrorism from Turkey's agenda. Our President has prioritized various efforts.

-One of the three things President Erdoğan told Assad when the 'Arab Spring' began was, 'Ensure the rights of the Kurds within a legal framework.'

-If there is any approach in any way aimed at usurping the rights of any sect in Syria, our President will primarily stand against it.

-Visits are taking place from everywhere, including Western countries, regarding the Syria issue. However, those who criticize Turkey for trying to direct things here have no basis. Syria belongs to the Syrians; I want to say that we are ready to walk arm in arm to ensure the territorial integrity of Syria is protected and to help the Syrian people overcome these difficult days.

-Some who call themselves foreign policy experts ask, 'Why are you so interested in Syria?' Everything happening in Syria directly concerns Turkey. It is important both for our country's interests and for brotherhood and regional peace.

-We are even forced to explain issues that are the ABCs of Syria policy. We have no attempt to establish patronage here.

-It is valuable that Western countries are also going there and saying they will help, but there is a problem with the messages given; they say 'let there be no Iranian and Russian influence,' but in reality, they are trying to create an influence themselves. We want everyone, majority or minority, to have a place in the future of Syria.

-The US has been implementing a sanctions regime since 1970 and has decided to introduce certain exemptions to its sanctions on Syria. These are important in the first stage.

-These days, there is a lively agenda for prisoner exchanges and a ceasefire. We are trying to continue the initiative to ensure humanitarian aid enters Gaza without any restrictions.

-The visits of the Imralı delegation are valuable for reaching the goal of a Turkey without terrorism.

DID THE PRESIDENT MEET WITH THE CHP MAYOR?

I listened to Mr. Özel's speech. He speaks in codes like the Da Vinci Code. There is no need for this; he should speak clearly. Secondly, our President is the head of the state.

There are many mayors who want to meet with our President.

As the head of state, our President's door is open to everyone as long as his schedule permits.

There is no illegal situation here, and there is nothing to be linked to a conspiracy theory. Ultimately, we are engaged in politics.
