First statement from CHP following Öcalan's call: 'We are maintaining our consistency'

Gathering following the 'call', the CHP demonstrated its perspective on the issue through a statement made by Chairman Özgür Özel after the meeting. Özel used the following expressions:

As the Republican People's Party, we are maintaining our historical consistency regarding the resolution of all our country's problems through democratic means. Likewise, we have always been against all forms of terror and violence, and we will continue to be against them from now on.

We maintain our stance that the Kurdish issue should be addressed and resolved under the roof of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, encompassing all segments of society, with transparency. We are aware of our responsibility for a solution that prioritizes the views of the entire society, the consent of martyrs' families, our veterans, and all victims for the sake of democracy, the rule of law, and social peace. We will not spare the contributions we have made to date in the future either.

The call for the terrorist organization to lay down its arms and dissolve itself is important. We hope that the requirements of this call will be fulfilled by its addressees and that terrorism, which has cost tens of thousands of lives and caused severe economic and social destruction, will end forever.

Undoubtedly, issues are not solved with wishes, but by establishing an environment of trust and through actions. The resolution of all of Turkey's problems is only possible through the establishment of internal peace. Internal peace, however, is not achieved in an authoritarian system, but in a democratic order, by adhering to the principles of the rule of law, and with justice and equality.

It is essential to abandon unlawful approaches in the implementation of existing laws and to put an end to constitutional violations, just as it is to make the necessary legal arrangements for democratization.

The Republican People's Party will not allow the society's demands for peace and democracy to be exploited by any authority, position, or actor in line with their own political goals.

In line with the principle of "Peace at home, peace in the world" of the founder of our Republic and our party, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, we are always on the side of peace and democracy efforts; we are against war, terror, conflict, and autocracy.
