First statement from İmamoğlu after the 5th wave operation against IMM! 'Are you going to jail 16 million Istanbulites one by one?'

The 5th wave of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations of corruption within the IMM was carried out this morning.

Detention warrants were issued for 47 people as part of 4 separate investigations. Among those for whom detention warrants were issued are 5 CHP mayors.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained at Silivri Prison, issued a statement following the operation against the IMM and the CHP.

The statement, shared via the account named Presidential Candidate Office (Cumhurbaşkanlığı Aday Ofisi) opened on behalf of İmamoğlu, included the following remarks:

"You have entered such a dark tunnel that you cannot find your way out. Wake up now, step back, and look at the state you have brought the country to with your own hands!

Those who convinced you to carry out these operations have dragged you into a vortex from which you cannot escape. Lies, deceit, discord, malice, threats, blackmail—you name it, it's all there. In a panic, they are scrambling to fill their empty files with people.

Now you are taking our district mayors into custody with trumped-up excuses. What are you going to do? Where will you stop? Are you going to jail 16 million Istanbulites one by one?

You are sinking deeper. The rule of law is in tatters, social peace has been disrupted, politics has come to a standstill, there is no reputation left when viewed from the outside world, and worst of all, the economy is spiraling toward an abyss.

To the esteemed members of the Turkish judiciary, the valuable leaders of our political parties and civil society, the leaders of our business world, and our unions: it is time to raise our voices together.

It is time to say 'enough is enough' together to this unjust and unlawful order.
