First statement from Turkey following Iran's attack on Israel: 'To the stability of our region...'
Following Iran's drone and ballistic missile attack on Israel, a statement has been issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The statement noted, "We will continue our efforts to prevent a process that would permanently damage the stability of our region and lead to larger conflicts on a global scale."
Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus was followed by Iran responding with drone and missile attacks against Israel.
Following statements and reactions from many countries and international organizations regarding the matter, a statement was also issued by Turkey.
'TO PREVENT TRIGGERING...'
The statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs included the following:
“We have long been reminding all our interlocutors of our warnings that the war Israel is continuing in Gaza carries the risk of spreading and escalating.
Israel’s attack on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, which violated international law, has justified our concerns. Iran’s retaliation to this attack and the subsequent developments have once again shown that events can rapidly turn into a regional war.
Before the incident occurred, we had held talks with Iranian and US authorities and called for restraint. The mutual expectations and messages of the parties were conveyed through our country, and the necessary initiatives were taken to ensure that the reactions would be proportionate.
"SECURITY THREATS TO OUR COUNTRY..."
Today, we are clearly conveying our messages to Iranian officials and Western countries that have influence over Israel to put an end to the escalation.
We will continue our efforts to prevent a process that would permanently damage the stability of our region and lead to larger conflicts on a global scale.
Developments have been closely monitored from the very first minute in consultation with our relevant institutions regarding security threats to our country, and our President is being regularly informed.”
