First step in CHP after 'Traitor Kemal' chants: Precautionary suspension for 63 party members

The convoy organization planned for the Istanbul visit of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the position of CHP Chairman by a court decision, was canceled at the last minute.

Following these developments, Kılıçdaroğlu did not attend the Day of Ashura fasting program held at the Garip Dede Cemevi.

INTENSE INTEREST IN ÖZGÜR ÖZEL

CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel attended the Day of Ashura fasting program at the Garip Dede Cemevi.

Özel, who was met with intense interest from citizens at the program, heard chants of "Traitor Kemal" rising from within the crowd as he moved through the gathering.

63 CHP MEMBERS' MEMBERSHIPS SUSPENDED AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE

Following the incident, Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as the trustee to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency, made a written statement.

Tekin announced that the party memberships of 63 CHP members, who were determined to have participated in the chants as a result of identifications made through footage, statements, and photographs, have been suspended as a precautionary measure.

"PLACES OF FAITH CANNOT BE THE ARENA FOR POLITICAL SETTLING OF SCORES"

In his statement, Gürsel Tekin noted that the scenes witnessed at the Garip Dede Cemevi were contrary to the spirit, etiquette, and traditions of places of faith.

Stating that cemevis and dervish lodges are not places for politics, polarization, and hate speech, but rather places of unity, brotherhood, consent, and social peace, Tekin noted that no person can turn these spaces into a stage for political settling of scores and divisive rhetoric.

The statement emphasized that any attitude that incites people against each other in a center of faith and legitimizes insults and targeting is unacceptable from both a political and moral perspective.

Tekin further stated that the essence of the Alevi faith contains love, not hatred, and unity, not division, expressing that no behavior that damages social peace, disrupts the fabric of places of faith, and uses the good intentions of the Alevi community for political calculations will go unanswered.
