Fog and strong winds disrupt flights in Istanbul

Adverse weather conditions have significantly disrupted air travel in Istanbul. As a result of the fog and strong winds that were effective throughout the city all day, 127 flights scheduled to depart from Sabiha Gökçen Airport were canceled.

Following this decision, thousands of passengers, particularly in the domestic terminal, formed long queues to update their tickets and seek information.

It was reported that 11 aircraft attempting to land at the airport were diverted to other nearby airports due to reduced visibility and increasing winds. The congestion in domestic flights caused passengers to wait for hours at the counters, with many effectively stranded at the airport following the cancellations. These long waits in the queues were also captured by security cameras.

Meteorological authorities anticipate that the poor weather conditions will continue in the coming days. Airlines have warned that cancellations and delays may persist until there is an improvement in meteorological conditions. Passengers are strongly advised to check their flight information via mobile applications before heading to the airport.
