Following Bahçeli's call, he had pointed to 'conditions': The number of TV channels watched by terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı has increased

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call for PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan to 'speak in Parliament' and his mention of the 'right to hope' continue to remain on the agenda.

ÖCALAN HAD POINTED TO CONDITIONS

Following Bahçeli's high-profile call, terrorist leader Öcalan pointed to his conditions, stating, "If the conditions are met, I have the theoretical and practical power to move this process from a ground of conflict and violence to a legal and political ground."

MINISTRY OF JUSTICE'S İMRALI REPORT

While the debate over Öcalan continues in politics, the Ministry of Justice's report regarding conditions at İmralı Prison has emerged. 

According to the 2023 Report of the Monitoring Boards of the Ministry of Justice's General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses, the number of television channels watched at İmralı Prison has increased. Two recommendations in the report, one of which was implemented and one of which was not, drew attention. 

NUMBER OF CHANNELS ROSE TO 15

As reported by Sözcü, the recommendation that was implemented was the increase in the number of TV channels. Including one radio channel, the total number of channels was increased to 15.

The recommendation that was not implemented concerns the access of letters and faxes sent to inmates at the prison.  The reason cited for the inability to resolve the issue with letters was that İmralı is an island prison.
