The special team established by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance continues its investigations, conducting one of the most comprehensive probes in recent years into those who launder money and evade taxes under the guise of being social media influencers.

More than 3 thousand taxpayers who generate income through social media and fail to fully meet their tax obligations have been identified.

When suspicions regarding money laundering arise, MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Board) intervenes. Tax inspectors examine tax losses and evasion, while MASAK experts investigate the aspect of money laundering. When criminal elements are detected, the matter is reported to the prosecutor's office.

According to a report by NTV; it is stated that the files of over 100 influencers have been forwarded to the prosecutor's office. Experts noted that in the investigations, which are focused on the period after 2019, the primary factor is the traffic of illicit funds rather than the number of followers.
