Foreign Minister Fidan explains the point of divergence between Turkey and America

Fidan made evaluations regarding foreign policy and the agenda during a live broadcast on NTV. Minister Fidan stated, "What is important, our goal, is to ensure peace and security in our region."

Evaluating the Gaza issue, Fidan said, "The US supports Israel unconditionally. We support Palestine. This is a point of divergence."

Turkey has a very large agenda. We have subjected our foreign policy goals to a review, both in terms of method and objective. What is important, our goal, is to ensure peace and security in our region.

Turkey is a giant country in its region, both economically and politically. We see the issue of peace as the most important stage of security.

In the new restructuring, we have focused on certain geographies at a micro level. We made Latin America a separate general directorate. We are increasing our number of general directorates in Africa to 3. We are establishing a general directorate regarding Turkic states. These are issues related to geography. It is necessary to bring new disciplines into the equation.

We also created a separate general directorate for consular affairs and issues related to Turkish citizens. Our goal is to manage the issues that are important to us in a more focused manner.

WHERE DO THE TWO COUNTRIES AGREE AND DISAGREE?

Where do we diverge? They support Israel unconditionally. We support Palestine. This is a point of divergence. Great powers have a characteristic; you have to look at this: Can they distinguish between issues? Do they continue to cooperate on matters of cooperation while arguing on matters of conflict? We also have areas with the US where we disagree, try to resolve through dialogue, and cooperate.

On the Gaza issue, it is not possible for Israel to commit genocide with such audacity right now without the military support of the US. The US President said it himself. Where do we agree? At the point we have reached, we have an agreement on a ceasefire.

There is work being done on that matter. I discussed this issue with my US counterpart today as well. We agree that in the absence of a two-state solution, this problem is a pathology that will constantly repeat itself.

"ISRAEL'S COST IS INCREASING"

I do not think the political understanding in the US is considering preventing these massacres by Israel. There may be intent. There are protests at universities in the US. This also sends certain messages to politicians. Israel's cost to the US and the West is increasing every day.

Many countries are hesitant to take steps regarding Israel. This is due to the perception created by the US and the West and the limitations they impose on themselves. They need leadership in some places. We are trying to carry this out with great sensitivity.

HE SPOKE ABOUT CEASEFIRE NEGOTIATIONS

Initially, the areas of disagreement between the parties were wide. Our Qatari and Egyptian friends worked intensively. We, as Turkey, also showed the necessary efforts. We were in communication with Hamas. The point where the issue is stuck is Israel's refusal to want a permanent ceasefire.

Hamas also has the demand, "I will agree to release the hostages, and in return, I expect a ceasefire." Israel does not accept this. Israel was continuing these negotiations because it expected Hamas to reject them. It has been revealed; Israel does not want a ceasefire.

I spoke with my US and Qatari counterparts, and with the Hamas leader. We needed to see where we stand on the ceasefire. We are where we were last week; we are in a state of deadlock. The US must pressure Israel. As the US heads toward elections, Biden is facing a major backlash from a certain segment of his own public opinion.

COUNTER-TERRORISM IN NORTHERN IRAQ

The visit to Iraq was important. Our relations with Iraq are important. Iraq has gone through a painful process over the last 20 years. There was a situation that served the interests of the terrorist organization. Operations have begun to be continuous. We have no designs on any country's land. We possess our own country. We exercise our sovereignty to the fullest. While the PKK cannot control 1 centimeter of land in this country, it has seized many regions in Iraq and Syria.

There is a distance we have developed with Iraq in the fight against terrorism. Iraq has oil and resources, but Iraq cannot solve its fundamental energy problems, water, health, and infrastructure issues. It is not possible for these to improve in a country where armed groups run rampant. We said, if you are with us, let's destroy the terrorist organizations together. Terrorism also prevents Iraq's development.

We are developing the counter-terrorism understanding we established with the Erbil administration with Baghdad as well. What is important for us is what steps they take against the organization. Turkey is a great country; it has finished its infrastructure problems in the last 20 years. Benefit from this. This much blood, tears, and war must stop now. For this, we need to move toward planned projects. The geography's resources are suitable. People also want this. While doing this, we do not want to be misunderstood by our neighbors, nor do we want to clash with them.

"ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS A GAME CHANGER"

Emphasizing that artificial intelligence will be a game changer, especially in the field of intelligence analysis, Fidan drew attention to the fact that with the use of artificial intelligence, a single person can do in a very short time what hundreds of people would do in a very long time.

Fidan spoke as follows: These were the capabilities we wanted to gain in intelligence as well. The issue of artificial intelligence has reached such a point that many professional groups do not know that they have lost their jobs. I was in a country recently, I won't name it. They have also partnered with artificial intelligence.

There are versions of these that are not open to the public. I had the opportunity to see a few of them. There, accounting processes, architectural processes, static calculations, engineering calculations, many issues are solved automatically. When these become commercialized, when they enter social life, one must foresee that the machine will replace the human. We need to prepare from now on. As Turkey, we need to be involved in work regarding artificial intelligence.

There is a danger of artificial intelligence getting out of control. In the past, states acquired nuclear weapons; space weapons are being talked about. Artificial intelligence will do a lot in the intelligence field. It will be a game changer in analysis in intelligence.
