Foreign Ministry statement on 'ceasefire'
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement regarding the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement regarding the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. In the statement, which thanked all mediating countries, it was stated: "Peace negotiations aimed at establishing an independent and sovereign State of Palestine with geographical integrity, based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, must begin as soon as possible. Turkey will continue to support the Palestinian people in the coming period."
President-elect Trump, who will take office on January 20, announced that Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement on a Gaza ceasefire. Describing the ceasefire agreement as "epic" on his SocialTruth account, Trump said the agreement "could only have happened as a result of his historic victory in November." Hamas also announced that its delegation had given approval to the mediators for the ceasefire agreement and the return of hostages.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement following the ceasefire decision. The statement included the following remarks:
"We welcome the ceasefire agreement reached between Hamas and Israel. We thank the mediating countries, especially Qatar and Egypt, for their efforts. In the period ahead, it is necessary to implement all stages of the agreement, make the ceasefire permanent, and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza urgently. The international community must ensure that Israel fulfills its responsibilities in these matters.
Lasting peace and stability in the Middle East are possible only with the arrival of peace in Palestine and the end of the injustice faced by Palestinians. In this context, peace negotiations aimed at establishing an independent and sovereign State of Palestine with geographical integrity, based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, must begin as soon as possible. Turkey will continue to support the Palestinian people in the coming period."
