Foreign Ministry's diplomatic note had sparked debate: Confession from AKP's Metiner, whose US visa application was rejected

The news that former AKP deputy Mehmet Metiner's visa application to the US Embassy was rejected, despite being made with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has become one of the hot topics in politics. Speaking after the process was brought to the agenda in this way, Metiner expressed that the comments made following his posts bothered him.

Metiner, who first shared the note sent by the Ministry on his social media account and then removed it, stated: "I made a mistake by publishing the note that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to the US Embassy. I am even bothered by this being discussed. The issuance of a diplomatic note is a system applied for both former and current deputies. We applied, they rejected it."

FOREIGN MINISTRY'S NOTE SPARKED DEBATE

While the subject was brought to a column by Saygı Öztürk, the expressions in the note that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to the US Embassy for Metiner also became a subject of criticism.

Stating that the expressions in question were ordinary in terms of diplomatic conventions, Öztürk wrote: "When I spoke with an experienced ambassador currently at the headquarters and our retired ambassador who previously served as Ambassador to Athens, New Delhi, and Lisbon, they said there was absolutely nothing unusual in these expressions. They emphasized that the language of the note has always been like this."

METİNER SAID "I MADE A MISTAKE"

Metiner also made statements regarding his sharing and subsequent deletion of the note. "Would someone who wants to flee, flee to the US, which they criticize? Besides, why would I flee? Did I commit a crime? But, I made a mistake by publishing the note that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to the US Embassy. I am even bothered by this being discussed. Stating that he had planned to go to the US Embassy about a month ago but postponed his flight, Metiner expressed that for this reason, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' note was perceived as if it had been sent after the application. He evaluated the process with the words: "My application was rejected for the first time. Our Foreign Ministry has not intervened and written such a letter after a rejection before."
