Forest fire in Afyon brought under control after 12.5 hours

Forest fires, which have increased due to global warming and environmental pollution, have been effective in many parts of the country throughout the summer season. Another was added yesterday to the fires in which dozens of hectares of land turned to ash.

A fire broke out in a landfill area in Yeşilhisar village in the Hocalar district of Afyonkarahisar yesterday around 16:30. Driven by the wind, the fire began to spread toward the Eldizan plateau in the Sinanpaşa district.

The fire was intervened with by the Forest Management Directorate, as well as fire trucks and heavy machinery from the Hocalar and Sandıklı municipalities.

The fire was brought under control around 05:00. While it was learned that cooling efforts by teams are continuing in the region, it was reported that according to initial assessments, 20 hectares of land were damaged.
