Forest fire in Bodrum brought under control

A fire broke out in the forested area in the Etrim and Kaklık locations of Pınarlıbelen neighborhood. Upon notification, teams from the Regional Directorate of Forestry and the Metropolitan Municipality were dispatched to the region.

The firefighting efforts are being supported by 10 helicopters and 8 aircraft from the air, and 119 fire trucks, 16 water tankers, 5 bulldozers, 400 personnel, and numerous fire departments along with some non-governmental organizations from the ground.

Bodrum District Governor Mustafa Çit and Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci also arrived at the fire zone to monitor the extinguishing efforts.

MUĞLA GOVERNOR AKBIYIK ALSO ARRIVED IN THE REGION

Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık received information about the latest situation regarding the fire at the Regional Directorate of Forestry Fire Management Vehicle.

In his statement here, Akbıyık said that they were experiencing one of the most serious fires of the year.

Stating that the Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry, AFAD, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, Bodrum and Milas Municipalities, and the private sector are supporting the firefighting efforts, Akbıyık said, "We are putting up a great struggle from the air and the ground to bring the fire under control as much as we can. I congratulate those who are serving in the fire."

Stating that there is currently no danger to residential areas, Akbıyık spoke as follows:

"We cannot say that the fire is fully under control. At least the spread of the fire has been prevented. All our units and vehicles will work until morning. Ground intervention was very difficult. Our friends carried water hoses for kilometers; the fire department carried hoses. Since there is no road, our bulldozers are working to open roads. Efforts from the air and ground continue. 18 of our aircraft and 119 ground fire trucks, along with fire departments from the municipalities, are supporting the fire. Approximately 400 personnel, mostly our forestry staff, are working here. The efforts will continue until morning, and we will bring it under control. I wish the best to our nation, to Bodrum, and to Muğla."

District Governor Çit also told reporters that the teams were intervening in the fire with all available means.

Çit said, "Efforts are being made to bring the fire under control; it has been largely surrounded. Our efforts continue to prevent the fire from jumping to our Pınarlıbelen and Etrim neighborhoods. We have seen that our forestry organization's aerial vehicles have reached a very good level. After the cooling works are finished, our gendarmerie will conduct a study regarding the cause of the fire."

Mayor Tamer Mandalinci noted that there were difficulties in ground intervention due to the rugged terrain of the area where the fire broke out.

Mandalinci said, "Firefighting efforts are continuing with over 250 sorties. Because the region is mountainous and the wind is blowing from very variable directions, the fire tends to go out of control in places and grow again. Our effective work continues so as not to lose a single square meter of forest land."

"100 HECTARES OF AREA DAMAGED"

Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras, who made inspections in the fire zone, stated that the fire had spread from the İnişdibi region to Kaplandağı, and announced that 100 hectares of area had been affected by the fire so far.

In his statement, Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Aras said, “It is understood that the fire started today due to a reason on the roadside. It had spread from the İnişdibi region to Kaptandağı. However, with the great struggle of our Regional Directorate of Forestry, the very serious intervention of the air teams, and the intervention of our other fire departments, all other volunteer organizations, the Bodrum Municipality, and of course all the teams of our Metropolitan Municipality, it has now been stopped.

Approximately 100 hectares of forest area, qualified forest area, were damaged. In a period where the risk is so high, our citizens also need to be very careful. I wish everyone a speedy recovery. I wish the local people in Bodrum a speedy recovery. I hope such a fire does not happen again.

But as I said, we still got through this fire cheaply. The fire, which started at 14.16, was intervened in 10 minutes later by both the forestry teams in the region and our fire department, and it was intervened with aerial vehicles. Therefore, this is very important, of course. I mean, intervening on time is of great importance.

Our friends are ready; after all, we have to protect our green homeland. In a period where the climate crisis is felt so much and drought has reached such a high level, as I said, we will take all kinds of measures to protect our forests. BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL

The forest fire that broke out in the Bodrum district of Muğla has been brought under control with aerial and ground intervention.

The fire, which broke out yesterday in the forested area in the Etrim and Kaklık locations of Pınarlıbelen neighborhood, was intervened with ground vehicles throughout the night.

The planes and helicopters, which took a break from the work at night, also joined the extinguishing efforts with the first light of the morning.

While the fire was brought under control with the efforts of the teams, cooling works are continuing in the region.
