Former Foreign Minister İsmail Cem speaks out: Fatih Terim blocked honorary citizenship for terrorist leader Öcalan

The granting of honorary citizenship to terrorist leader Öcalan in the Italian city of Bologna drew widespread backlash, while a similar incident that occurred in Florence in 2001 has resurfaced years later.

FATİH TERİM INTERVENED

The Florence Municipality's plan at the time to grant honorary citizenship to Öcalan was shelved after Fiorentina manager Fatih Terim stepped in. This initiative, which was conducted away from the public eye, came to light years later through the statements of the then-Foreign Minister İsmail Cem.

According to a report by Odatv, responding to a journalist's question regarding Terim's tenure in Italy, Cem stated, "Fatih is also our representative. For instance, the Florence Municipality was about to take an absurd decision. Fatih intervened and blocked it."
