Former judge and prosecutor's son sentenced for armed threat and assault
Following incidents in Bakırköy, Görkem Sertaç Göçmen, who insulted 2 night watchmen and threatened 3 police officers with a blank-firing gun in Sinop, has been sentenced by the court to a total of 2 years and 6 months in prison and a judicial fine of 10,620 TL.
Görkem Sertaç Göçmen, who previously caused injuries in Bakırköy by driving his car into citizens who reacted to him beating his girlfriend, has returned to the spotlight in Sinop with new charges. Göçmen, whose mother is a former judge and father is a former public prosecutor, appeared in court for insulting 2 night watchmen and threatening 3 police officers with a blank-firing gun.
The incident occurred on November 28, 2020. Göçmen, who went out during a period when there was a curfew due to the coronavirus, insulted the night watchmen who warned him to return home, saying, "What's the matter? Who are you?" Despite the warnings, Göçmen went to his home, where he injured himself. Police were called after he caused trouble for the medical personnel who arrived at the scene, and Göçmen pointed a blank-firing gun at the police vehicle, stating, "I have 9 years of prison time, you're not a man if you don't shoot me."
During the court hearing, night watchman Eren Y. and police officer Bekir M. testified. While night watchman Eren stated that Göçmen insulted them and threatened them with a weapon, police officer Bekir stated that Göçmen's weapon was a blank-firing gun, but they had difficulty understanding the situation because the incident took place late at night.
In his defense, Göçmen stated that he was upset on the day of the incident and had been drinking alcohol, saying, "We had bought the blank-firing pistol to protect ourselves from dogs." However, the court sentenced Göçmen to 2 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of 'armed threat against more than one person' and a judicial fine of 10,620 TL for the crime of 'publicly insulting a public official.' The court did not grant a deferral or a suspension of the pronouncement of the verdict for the sentences given.
The Boyabat Criminal Court of First Instance sent a writ to the Bakırköy Criminal Court of First Instance for the cancellation of the decision to suspend the pronouncement of the verdict regarding Göçmen. The opinion emphasized that Göçmen's previous crimes were also taken into consideration. This incident drew attention as Göçmen has previously been in the news for numerous other accusations.
