Free water initiative sparks controversy: Brand owner revealed to be close to the government
Following Minister of Transport Abdulkadir Uraloğlu's announcement that free water would be provided to airline passengers, it was revealed that the water brand to be used is ASSU. It has been determined that the brand's owner, Yaşabey Kalebaşı, has openly supported the AKP in the past.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced last week that at least 200 milliliters of drinking water would be provided free of charge to all airline passengers.
BRAND REVEALED
Following the minister's announcement, social media posts revealed that the water to be served belongs to the ASSU brand.
Records show that ASSU owner Yaşabey Kalebaşı has openly supported the AKP in the past.
In a speech he gave in 2013 during his tenure as President of the Çamoluk Association, Kalebaşı made the following remarks regarding the upcoming local elections:
"I know the Saadet Party candidate, Mr. Davut, closely. He is a decent and successful brother of ours. But brother Davut, excuse me, we must support the AK Party to win in Çamoluk. Even though we are neutral, the ruling party must win in order to receive services."
