Funeral support for relatives of those who passed away under SGK
The Social Security Institution (SGK) provides a one-time financial support to the families of deceased insured individuals to cover funeral expenses. The application requirements and steps to follow have been shared.
The Social Security Institution (SGK) provides a one-time payment, known as a funeral allowance, to the relatives of individuals who were working as insured employees or were retirees at the time of their death. All details regarding who is eligible for this allowance, application conditions, and other frequently asked questions have been shared with the public.
There are specific conditions that must be met by those wishing to benefit from the funeral allowance. Primarily, the spouse of the deceased person is the first in line to benefit from this right. In cases where there is no spouse, children, followed by parents, and then siblings can benefit from the allowance. For insured individuals who have no relatives, payment can be made to the person or institution that provides proof of covering the funeral expenses.
Certain conditions must be met to receive the allowance. These include death resulting from a work accident or occupational disease, receiving a permanent incapacity income, disability or old-age pension (retirement salary) at the time of death, or having at least 360 days of premiums reported as of the date of death.
Regarding the application process, beneficiaries must apply via e-Devlet using the “Income, Pension, and Allowance Request Form” or by visiting the nearest SGK provincial or center directorates. Furthermore, if a funeral allowance is requested while applying for an income or pension, this right is processed automatically without the need for a separate application.
The right to receive the funeral allowance expires if it is not exercised within 5 years from the date of death.
The following statements were included in the SGK's social media announcement: “You can apply via the e-Devlet Gateway with the ‘Income, Pension, and Allowance Request Form’ or by going to the nearest Social Security Provincial Directorate/Center Directorate. We do not require those who also request a funeral allowance while applying for an income or pension to make a separate application. Do not forget to claim the funeral allowance within 5 years!”
Current information regarding the funeral allowance can be accessed through the SGK's official website and the e-Devlet platform.
