Aegean Sea shaken: Frightening warning from earthquake expert! 'Must be evacuated'

Earthquakes that have been continuing for the last few days in the Aegean Sea, around the island of Santorini, have worried the local population.

Making a statement on his social media account, Geophysical Engineer Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan stated that the focal depths of the earthquakes being between 1 and 5 kilometers indicate that the ground tremors are of volcanic origin.

ERUPTION DANGER

Prof. Dr. Ercan stated that prior to a magma-related explosion, a pressure increase of around 250 bars originating from the magma chamber creates a danger of piercing the earth's crust at a temperature of 2,200°C and erupting.

Stating that volcanic bombs could be ejected with the eruption of silicate lavas, Ercan announced that if the explosion is accompanied by large earthquakes, earthquakes of magnitude M5 to M7 and tsunamis could occur.

He warned that the waves could affect the Aegean Islands, the Peloponnese, Crete, and the coastal belt of Turkey's Teke Peninsula.

RESIDENTIAL AREAS MUST BE EVACUATED

Prof. Dr. Ercan warned that, considering the dangerous situation in the region, settlements in and around Santorini should be evacuated, maritime transport should be restricted, and fishing should be stopped.
