AKP prepares Syria report: Will the country's territorial integrity be ensured? Will the PYD/YPG be liquidated?

Following the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria, the situation that emerged was evaluated in a comprehensive report by the AKP Human Rights Unit.

In the report presented to President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it was stated that while there is a sense of victory in the cities following the collapse of the 61-year-old Baath regime, the public remains in a state of deep anxiety.

The report emphasized that cities bearing the scars of the civil war have largely turned into ruins, and that the public is in deep distress with questions such as "What will happen tomorrow?", "Will there be new conflicts?", "Will the PYD/YPG be liquidated?", and "Will the country's territorial integrity be ensured?"

It was stated that while major cities like Aleppo and Damascus could recover with certain support, it is impossible for towns and villages to get back on their feet on their own.

DIMENSIONS OF DESTRUCTION

The report drew attention not only to physical destruction but also to looted cities, exhausted energy and food resources, collapsed healthcare services, and negligible levels of telephone and internet access. While major cities like Aleppo and Damascus show partial promise, it was emphasized that rural areas need to be rebuilt from scratch.

FUNDS ARE MANDATORY

The report stated that international aid is of vital importance for Syria to get back on its feet. Noting that "UN and EU funds are required for the development of cities. It is not possible for this process to progress without Turkey's support," the report recorded that close cooperation between the Turkish and Syrian governments is essential.

SISTER CITY PROJECT ON THE AGENDA

According to the report, Turkey plans to establish sister city relationships between its cities to contribute to the reconstruction of Syria. It was stated that municipalities in Turkey would play an important role in this process, and in this context, the pairing of some cities with those in Syria is on the agenda.

TORTURE CENTERS AND GRAVES

One of the most striking points in the report was the concern that torture centers in the country have reached horrific proportions and that the number of mass graves is steadily increasing. It was stated that this situation serves as a warning that the international community needs to increase its interest in Syria.

The report stated that for people to return to their country in Syria, they must feel safe, and it drew attention to the importance of steps such as cooperation between local administrations and the restoration of basic health and housing services. It was emphasized that Turkey should take a leadership role in this process.
