AKP's early election date leaked from behind-the-scenes: 'It will go to a second round in any case'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has frequently called for an early election following his victory in the March 31 Local Elections. Özel has used the slogan "If there is no livelihood, there is an election" in public squares.

Following the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, and the successive investigations launched against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the CHP has significantly increased pressure regarding an early election.

Having decided to amplify its call for an early election in the face of all developments in recent months, the CHP wants an election within this year.

After giving a statement as part of the investigation launched against him, İBB Mayor İmamoğlu said in a speech he delivered to citizens alongside Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş, "They cannot stop us; the ballot box will come, and this government will go."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who frequently calls for an early election, most recently assessed, "The ballot box will come in 2025. We will work with all our might for the ballot box to come."

According to a report by Gazete Duvar, while the CHP's calls for an early election continue, the date the AKP government is discussing for an election has leaked from behind-the-scenes.

It has been learned that within the AKP, it is being said regarding an early election, "The upcoming Presidential election will be held in 2027 in any case. The election to be held will go to a second round in any case."
