Alarming statement from Naci Görür! 'The earthquake will last for 2 minutes, millions will die!'

Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made striking statements about the increasing seismic activity in the Aegean Sea and the potential earthquake in Istanbul.

"IT WILL LAST APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES"

Görür estimated that the potential Marmara earthquake would have a magnitude of 7.5 and last for approximately 2 minutes. Stating that approximately 4 million people in Istanbul are facing the risk of death, Görür emphasized that a large portion of the buildings in the city lack earthquake resistance and that this situation could lead to a massive loss of life.

Prof. Dr. Görür was a guest on the program Az Önce Konuştum, hosted by Candaş Tolga Işık. Stating that the impact of a potential earthquake in Istanbul would be immense, Prof. Dr. Naci Görür used the expression, "Approximately 4 million people could be face-to-face with death."

IS ISTANBUL READY FOR AN EARTHQUAKE?

Speaking about a potential earthquake in Istanbul, Naci Görür said, "Everyone says, '60 percent of the building stock is not earthquake-resistant.' They cite incorrect use of concrete, improper sand, insufficient use of steel, poor engineering, lack of permits, or inadequate project designs. The municipality says; 'I have 1 million 100 thousand buildings in Istanbul. At least 100 thousand buildings have no earthquake resistance. They will sustain very heavy damage,' it says.

Deaths will come from the heavily damaged buildings. If each of those 100 thousand buildings has 5 floors, that means 500 thousand floors. And I am putting 4 people on each floor. 4 people times 1 million apartments makes 4 million people. How many of those 4 million people could die? Reduce the 4 million, it won't drop below 500 thousand, and anything above that is possible. 4 million people in this country are under threat in an earthquake," he stated.

TERRIFYING STATEMENT

Responding to Candaş Tolga Işık's question, "Life has not fully returned to normal in the provinces affected by the February 6 earthquake even after 2 years; how many years after a potential Istanbul earthquake is life expected to return to normal?" Naci Görür said, "The debris from an earthquake in the Marmara Region would take more or less 7.5 years to clear. Depending on the rupture of the faults... The Adalar fault produces an earthquake of at most 7, while the Kumburgaz fault produces a minimum of 7.2.

If both break at once, it will be an average magnitude of 7.5 and will last for nearly 2 minutes. If it breaks all at once, it will last more than a minute. All simulations are done on 7.5. One might wonder if this earthquake will happen at the same time. In 1766, first the Adalar fault and then the Kumburgaz fault broke. Istanbul was affected by two magnitude 7 earthquakes with a 3-month interval," he stated.
