Bad news for Erdoğan, who closed the doors to early elections! His candidacy was questioned
In a survey conducted by the Saros Center for Political and Social Research, citizens were asked about early elections and the potential re-candidacy of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan closed the doors on CHP leader Özgür Özel's call for early elections during his party's group meeting.
In his statement, Erdoğan said, "Since the Constitution and the election law have not changed, the presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in 2028, and the local government elections will be held in 2029, Mr. Özgür."
While debates continue in the public eye regarding whether Erdoğan can be a candidate again, the Saros Center for Political and Social Research conducted a comprehensive public opinion poll. In the study in question, participants were also asked questions regarding Erdoğan's re-candidacy.
CITIZENS SAY THERE IS NO JUSTICE
The survey, conducted in June with a total of 11 thousand people, also questioned the trust in the country's justice system. 90 percent of the participants stated that there is a serious "justice problem" in Turkey.
71.8 PERCENT WANT EARLY ELECTIONS
In the research published after Erdoğan rejected early elections at his party's group meeting, it was determined that 71.8 percent of the public demands an early election.
ERDOĞAN'S RE-CANDIDACY
Another question asked in the survey was: "In the event of an early election, would you want President Erdoğan to be a candidate again?" To this question, 67.6 percent of the participants answered "No, I would not," while 26.2 percent answered "Yes, I would."
Journalist Ertuğrul Özkök evaluated the research results in his column and used the following expressions:
"Three out of every 10 Turkish citizens want Erdoğan to be a candidate again. Nearly seven want the Erdoğan era to end now. This number was 6 according to Panorama's survey last February. It has risen to seven after March 19."
